Client: World Bank Group
Sector: International financial institution

Client challenge/opportunity:

For World Bank Group leaders, supporting their people’s growth is central to supporting global progress. Yet, despite their commitment, many managers lacked the tools and confidence to guide those crucial conversations about careers. With 19,000 staff across 140 countries, the World Bank Group’s mission—to create a world free of poverty on a liveable planet—depends on a diverse and highly skilled workforce. But staff engagement surveys revealed a clear challenge: employees wanted more clarity around career progression and more opportunities to talk openly about their development. Managers needed practical frameworks and confidence to have meaningful career conversations that would help employees navigate their paths within such a complex, global organisation.

Solution delivered:

Antoinette worked closely with the World Bank Group’s HR and Talent Development team to design a multi-faceted learning journey that blended inspiration, skill-building, and sustainability.

  • Confident Career Conversations Masterclasses for senior managers, both in-person in Washington D.C., and virtually. The masterclasses were tailored to WBG’s new Career Development Plan and MyCareer platform, providing managers with practical skills to integrate conversations into daily practice.
  • A Certified Career Conversations Facilitator “Train the Trainer” Programme to build internal capability, equipping 24 HR and management professionals to cascade learning across the organisation.

Outcomes/results:

The results were clear: managers left with practical tools, greater confidence, and renewed enthusiasm for supporting career growth.

  • High engagement: Participants praised the interactive nature of the masterclasses, with hands-on activities, role-plays, and solution-focused tools.
  • Capability building: 24 in-house facilitators were certified, significantly expanding WBG’s internal reach and sustainability of the programme.
  • Positive impact: Post-training surveys reported an overall satisfaction rate of 8.2/10 and strong confidence among managers in applying the toolkit to real conversations.
  • Strategic alignment: The programme supported WBG’s HR strategy to embed a culture of career planning, accountability, and growth.
