What is Mentoring? Launch Event
A really useful and informative session. It helped me understand more about how to become a mentor and what skills you need.
Manager, FCDO Services
Different people have very different ideas about what mentoring is. Unrealistic expectations about what mentoring can achieve can undermine its effectiveness. Confusion about roles and responsibilities can lead to disappointment and dissatisfaction.
Our What is Mentoring? Event will help prospective mentors and mentees understand what mentoring involves. They will discover how it can benefit them and how it can add value to the organisation.
An interactive session to attract interested colleagues (mentors and mentees) to the Programme. It will provide an overview of the structure and expected benefits, and to answer questions.
As a result of this session, prospective mentors and mentees will:
- Be clear on what mentoring is/involves
- Identify the benefits to them of being involved in a mentoring relationship
- Get a taster of those benefits through practical experience
What do we cover?
- Mentoring – what is it?
- How does it work?
- Mentoring philosophy
- The difference between coaching and mentoring
- Benefits of mentoring – for the mentor and the mentee
- OSKAR – a practical solution-focused framework for mentoring conversations
- Overview of the Programme
The What is Mentoring? session is best attended by anyone who is interested in learning more about mentoring. Anyone who wishes to access the programme either as a prospective mentor or a prospective mentee or both should attend.
